Vail, Colorado is a legendary ski resort that sits in the Rocky Mountains about 2 hours (135 miles) from Denver and is known for it's iconic skiing and snowboarding. Founded in 1962, Vail is only one of two major ski resorts in Colorado that was planned exclusively for the purpose of skiing. All of the other major resorts: Copper Mountain, Breckenridge, Keystone, Aspen, Telluride, and Crested Butte were added to existing mining towns. Vail along with Beaver Creek are the only two ski resorts in Colorado where nearly all 4-pack and 6 pack lifts are high speed.
For Winter 2022, Vail Resorts in planning to replace Game Creek Express (Chair 7) with an update highspeed 6-pack lift, increasing uphill lift capacity by 50%. The company also plans to build an entirely new 4-pack chair lift from the base of High Noon Express (Chair 5) to the top of Wildwood Express (Chair 3) and top of Game Creek Express (Chair 7), which will allow skiers and riders easier access to Ptarmigan Ridge and some of the most iconic powder runs in Sun Down Bowl, namely Ricky's Ridge, Widge's Ridge, Seldom, and Never.
Arriving in Vail, you will notice that everything is accessible via walking or the town's free bus service. Once you arrive at your hotel, all of the shops and dining are just a few steps away. Vail has 273 trails and 33 lifts serving 5,317 acres of vast terrain. It is the fourth largest ski area in North America and the second largest single ski resort (not requiring a gondola connection) behind Big Sky Montana.
